U18s Complete League & Cup Double
The end of an era…and what a way for our Juniors Club’s most successful team ever to finish on. The U18 Juniors have been leading their Premier Elite Division all season but still needed to avoid defeat away, against an old style and aggressive Godalming Town FC team, to win the title.
The game started well and our boys should have made more of their chances, as they went close on a couple of occasions and also hit a post. Another launch up-field though, by Godalming, and a resulting corner, saw our lads concede and they trudged in at half-time 1 – 0 down.
A no-nonsense team talk during the break, by Manager Mark Harewood, seemed to settle the nerves, focus the minds, and the Juniors came out a different team; competitive, skilful and slick, they dominated their opponents.
The equalising goal came from a Scannella free-kick, headed goal-wards by Tanner and finished by McGlennan. The winner came 15 minutes from time and from a super cross by Gaisie, expertly put away by Hallam.
It was a fitting finish…
When the team started – in the bad old days when there was (very!) competitive football at U7 – the boys won a League and Cup double.
In the very first game of that season, on the 15th October 2006, they beat Abbey Rangers ‘B’ 5 – 0 and two of the boys who started that game played against Godalming on Sunday 27th May 2018; Calogero and Andrew…with Andrew scoring in both games!
The boys have won countless titles, tournaments and cups and have been a joy to have at the Club. We at Walton Casuals Juniors FC wish all of them the best for the future and hope that some will continue to feature in our U23 side that starts this September.
The Club (and ALL the boys) would also like to thank Mark Harewood and Andy Horner for managing and coaching the boys for the last 6 years…Gentlemen, the team would have achieved none of what they have without your guidance. Thank you.
