With the announcement of our new Ladies’ Senior and Reserve teams, the progress of the U14 Jewels has recently gone a little under the radar. Their steady advance into the promotion places of Division 1, and a chance to play next season in the top division against the like of Oueens Park Rangers and AFC Wimbledon had been overshadowed. However, yesterday, the Girls put themselves back in the limelight and to the forefront of the Club’s many high achieving sides by clinching their berth in next season’s Premier Division.
The Girls had walked out with the Senior Team, on Saturday, before the home game against Herne Bay FC…and hoped that the 7-0 victory of the Senior side was a good omen for their crunch game against Crystal Palace FC the following morning.
The game kicked off on the Stadia pitch at 10am and after a thrilling encounter, which saw some fantastic last ditch defending and both sides going close to scoring the decisive goal, the game ended 0-0…and the Jewels had the point they needed to clinch their runner’s-up spot in the Division.
The Girls and their coach Darren Buckley have been a wonderful advertisement for the Club all season long. They are talented, hard-working and perfectly behaved and a real credit to our Walton Casuals football family…and they deserve all our congratulations.
Frank Scannella, Chairman of WCJ FC, said: ‘ I have watched the Girls play a few times this season, and they have been superb every time I’ve seen them. I’m also lucky enough to train next to Darren and the Girls on a Thursday, and I’ve noted first-hand how dedicated they are as a group. They are a fantastic bunch, and we are so very proud of them and all they have achieved.’
