On the eve of St Valentine’s, Ellis Wisdom (16), Calogero Scannella (17) and Bailey Tanner (18) from the U18 juniors team, all came on early in the second-half of the Senior team’s match, against Evo-Stick Premier South side, Farnborough FC.
The boys have impressed at U18 and U21 level, as well as Senior training sessions and Anthony Gale (Senior team Manager and Head of AGA Fit) decided that it was time to see if the lads were ready to make the jump to Senior Football.
The Farnborough FC team are a step higher than Walton Casuals FC in the football pyramid and were also sprinkling their side with up and coming starlets. What followed though recalled – to the hardy crowd who braved the elements and witnessed the game at the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub – the famous incident (on St. Valentine’s Day) in Chicago in 1929.
Anthony Gale’s team were unstoppable and their brand of passing football which in their League has earned them the sobriquet of the ‘Bostik Man City‘, left the Farnborough FC management and coaching staff grudgingly impressed. Walton Casuals FC won the game 7 – 1 and rarely looked troubled.
In the last 15 minutes of the game Walton Casuals played with 10 men (including our 3 boys) and produced the move of the game; 38 passes, which moved the ball all around the pitch and culminated in Scannella, failing by a toe, to score what would have been a spectacular team goal.
All in all our boys did very well and came out of the experience with much to understand, improve and build on but with Anthony Gale reassured that if need be – and he has to play one of the boys in a Senior promotion chasing game – they won’t let him down.
