It was our last ever game as a team which formed over 10 years ago and it was a fitting end to be playing in a final.
We were confident going into the game as we had played 4 difficult and tight games to get there during the cup run but to win 8-0 (!) and put in the performance that we did as a team was a great way to finish. It was mentioned by many that it was probably the best game the team had ever played.
It started so well as we went 2 goals up early on and this settled us and allowed us to play with confidence. Will Fitch started the scoring with a great team goal worked down the left after a superb run and cross from Ethan Illman and then Matt Ledbury, a few minutes later, hit a curling 20 yarder into the top left-hand corner.
Guildford Saints rallied and battled to get back into the game but as the half wore on Fabien Hughes stepped up for the Juniors and finished off a move which started down the right from good play between Ben Cox and Marcus Shantry to make it 3-0 at halftime.
The 2nd half started in the same vein, no let up from the Juniors. Two more goals from outside the area hit with power and pace from Rohil and another from Matt Ledbury and we were 5-0 up, with five fantastic finishes!
Then an inch-perfect through ball from James North set up Jamie Martin who didn’t need to break stride and perfectly lobbed their keeper to make it 6-0. With 10 minutes to go James Sayers scored from only 10 yards inside their half – a truly magnificent hit from distance with mesmerising precision.
With minutes remaining Ed Davey finished the scoring, a clever goal hit with much power, from just inside the area.
The result was amazing but the performance was perfect – every player played a big part in winning this game.
I was immensely proud of my team and I thank them all for giving me and all the parents a match full of moments that we will never forget.
