Result: Moor Mead Cosmos U11 3 – 2 Walton Casuals Lions U11
Goals: Alex, OG
A good start to the season for the U11 Lions, narrowly losing 3-2 to a late Moor Mead goal. Casuals started the game well, despite this being their first experience of playing 9v9 and dealing with the introduction of off-side. After some prolonged pressure, the Lions took an early lead as Alex rifled in a left-foot shot after some good build up play. The lads continued to press but Moor Mead equalised with a great shot after catching them on the break. The scoreline was short-lived however, as Casuals regained the lead through an own goal after some excellent pressing by Josh. 2-1 to the Lions at the break.
Moor Mead equalised early in the second half after some good play down the left from their pacy number 3. However The Lions continued to press for the winner with some strong play, with Josh dominant in midfield, Alex, Lucas, Ollie and Hayden strong at the back. Jack, making his debut in goal, demonstrated some strong handling and movement off his line. After narrow misses for both Harrison and George, Casuals began to tire on the larger pitch and were caught short at the back, allowing Moor Mead to snatch a winner a couple of minutes from time. Very harsh on the lads, as a draw would have been a fair result.
Overall a good start to the season with a strong performance, and good adaptation to the change in team formation and new rules.
Man of the match went to Josh for a superb display in midfield.
