The Jaguars U15 competed for their first trophy at the Sports Hub on Sunday, facing a confident Badshot Lea team from the Division above.

Badshot were quicker out of the blocks than the Jaguars and early pressure and nervous defending brought an early goal for them. Good keeping from William allowed the Jaguars to rally and two long range strikes from Joe caused the Badshot keeper some concern. The Jaguars started to play themselves back into the game with good work from Will T and Anders but the Badshot defence was tough and resilient. Badshot, weathering the storm then created more chances and notched a second before half time.

A good team talk at the break ensured a very positive start to the second half and a more intense period of play, with Dan, Josh, Anders and Will constantly pressuring the Badshot back four. It was an impressive period of play and if the Jaguars had been able to convert one of their chances things might have ended differently. However, with the Jaguars pushing ever forward it was Badshot who claimed the important third goal.

The Jaguars heads did not drop and they continued to compete, but when the Badshot keeper pulled off another great save from Jake’s shot – that seemed destined for the top corner – spectators could see that the Jaguars name was not on the Cup.

The defence led by skipper Kieran held firm and a late goal line clearance by Sam kept the score at what was a slightly generous 3 – 0.

Congratulations to Badshot Lea, who were the best team on the day! The Jaguars will rally, and hopefully go one better next season.
